Common Cress - Participate!
Current Project - New Life Berlin - June '08

Going Nowhere Common Cress

If you are unable to be part of the project in Berlin, you can still participate by growing cress in the UK/anywhere and emailing us an image of yourself with your harvest!

Virtual Meadow! This will be added to the website after the trip – in an online virtual meadow with real egg and cress sandwich smell (well not really) but it will be a communal place for everyone’s efforts to be seen & appreciated.  We hope that it will lead to meeting new people and many more sandwich experiences – not just in Berlin!

Cress start kits

Common Cress – A British Invasion of sorts. In June ’08, Going Nowhere are travelling to Berlin to meet artists & residents of the city who have volunteered to grow cress!  Volunteers were sent Common Cress starter kits to help them in growing a crop ready for harvest as the group arrives in Berlin.  This cress will be used to fill the space inside the Caban Unnos house(a project created for New Life Berlin by No Fixed Abode).  Egg & cress sandwiches will be made, shared & consumed by the cress growers and anyone who wants to join in(8th & 9th June - cress growers will be met at Eberswalderstrasse u-bahn stop at 3pm on 8th June!) – in the hope of developing links & interactions with new folk.

The Common Cress project is continuing and volunteers unable to travel to Berlin for the sandwich experience will still be able to be part of the meadow in an alternative vitual rendition created on this website after the trip.  If you would like to be part of this project and grow cress for this online communal meadow – then please request a starter kit – going(dot)nowhere(dot)projects@googlemail.com  If the sandwich meet up goes well, it may be repeated in a town/city near you.

Going Nowhere is open to suggestions of sites/spaces for our projects or future collaborations. The group is keen to meet other artists & groups in Nottingham & beyond. They are also open to people interested in just saying hello.

Going Nowhere - Adam Goodge & Katrine Brosnan Unleashed

Unleashed – An assortment of projects & collaborations. In May '08, the Going Nowhere artists took part in Unleashed as Tether studio members.  The premise was collaboration & the creation of new work for an interesting site (Nottingham’s old cop shop).  Artworks were created and the event lent itself to allowing experimental works which blurred the lines between artwork and spectacle.  Adam Goodge & Katrine Brosnan gave away free ice creams from a professional looking van, whilst Amanda Going & Charlotte Pratley created a performative drawing collaboration using the past and present as their inspiration.  Rebecca Gove-Humphries collaborated with Aaron Juneau to reinterpret and present video works created by Tether members using ‘What is Beauty?’ as their starting point.

Going Nowhere - Hatch Nottingham

Hatch – Live Art Event Nottingham. Also in May ’08, Going Nowhere collaborated on a live art performance for Hatch in Nottingham.  ‘A democratic exercise’ was a response to establishing structure within artist led activities & groups.  Influenced by the idea that artist led groups and activities replicate the structures & guidelines of the institutions they are attempting to avoid answering to.   Since graduating and being part of a studio group; ‘A democratic exercise’ represented a small rebellion & release from authority.   It comprised of an aerobic routine from a Rosemary Connelly fitness video, the routine was rebelled against in a formulaic structure as we rehearsed and performed it backwards , e.g - a box step became a twist move and vice versa.

To find out more about Hatch - the new live art event in Nottingham visit their website - Hatch Nottingham.

See more images of the performance & Utube video here(soon).
